On Tuesday, April 8th, the Choir Boosters held their monthly meeting in the choir room at 7:00 PM. (The meeting was scheduled one week later than usual due to the New York Trip.) Minutes from the meeting are now online. Items discussed included: upcoming Spring Concert, next year's spring break trip, ISSMA Organizational Festival, choir banquet, Susan Emig Scholarship, audit committee, nomination of next year's officers, and flower sales after the spring concert
President, Mary Kennedy, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. She started the meeting by reviewing the web site on the overhead screen.
Meeting minutes from the March 4, 2003 meeting were read and accepted.
Treasurer's Report was read. Balance of $2,360.40. Transactions this past month included a deposit of $837.23 for ticket sales from our last concert and $125.00 from concession. There is an outstanding bill of $147.08 for the pens purchased for the banquet.
Committee heads reported on the help from our last concert. Handicap door was a concern. It will be addressed for our next concert to be sure we have coverage for it.
Concession went well. It was a nice change having the finger deserts instead of pie. We will do this again for the spring concert. There is still plenty of pop left.
Costume help went well.
The showcase was outstanding.
Supervision was once again a problem. The problem seems to be about 4 or 5 students from 6th hour. Mr. Emig said that these students would not be allowed to stay in the auditorium for the next concert. It was recommended that we have teachers help with the supervision.
It was recommended that an announcement be made that all pagers and cell phones be shut off before the concert starts.
There is a video available from the last concert for $7.00.
The New York Trip was great. A few suggestions for next year was Canada, Bahamas, and San Antonio.
ISSMA Organizational Festival is this Saturday at Pierce. Adult help is needed. Volunteers should be at the school by 7:30 A.M.
Shelves for the music in Mr. Emig's office have been finished.
Still want to encourage pictures and articles for the web site.
Banquet is May 27th at 6:00 P.M. Price is $18.00 per person. There is no charge for the senior students. Flyers will be going out within the next couple of weeks. Make checks payable to MHS Choir Boosters.
Susan Emig Scholarship Fund protocol was discussed and a motion was made to accept it. There will be a mailing sent to Choir Alumni for donations. There has been approximately $400.00 so far in private donations.
It was recommended that an audit committee be set up to audit the choir booster books. Dave Festa will chair this; volunteers to help are Debbie Nieman, and Debby Johnson.
Nominations for next year's officers took place as follows:
Elections will be held at the next meeting
- President: Dave Festa
- Vice President: Debbie Nieman and Joi Patterson
- Secretary: Alex Ternes
- Treasurer: Elena Rojo and Debbie Elser
We will be selling flowers before the next concert. $1.00 for 1 or 6 for $5.00.
Mr. Emig would like for some parents to volunteer to set up a meeting to talk with Merrillville High School Administrators. He would like them to speak on behalf of the music program and its importance to our students. He will set up an appointment to meet with them.
The next meeting will be held May 6, 2003 at 7:00 PM. Meeting Adjourned
