Random Lyrics

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
that never learns to live.

A thought that'll make you go "hmmm" more than the warm ups

Why are we called velvet teens if we don't wear velvet dresses or anything for concerts?  It's a strange thought that hit me the other day.  Is it just because we have soft skin, or just because we're such smooth dancers?  Just a thought.  Does anyone else have any theories about our name?

Hmmm... I'm not sure, but I do know that Mr. Reinhart (the auditorium director and former choir director) is responsible for making up the name. If I recall correctly, he created the "Velveteens" choir because he had so many talented female singers and couldn't find partners for all of them in the mixed choir. I believe "velvet" referred to the smooth way in which their voices blended.

You'd have to check with him to find out for sure, though. Wink!

Origin of the term "Velveteens"

Well, I asked him, and here's what he said:
Mr. Reinhart started an all-girls show choir due to the fact that he had so many talented girls that he couldn't place them all in Vocalteens. He needed a name to complement that of "Vocalteens." Apparently, the girls had costumes with jumpers made of velveteen fabric. They settled on the name "Velveteens" because of the costumes and because their voices were "smooth as velvet."
